To prepare and mobilize the equipments and tools for research in DDRI and also to propose and conduct research projects. Research projects need to be organized with respect to  dryland and desert problems, desertification, combat desertification, natural (renewable) resources, ancient knowledge and human harmony with desert (Qanat, subirrigation[Kozeie irrigation], agriculture, civil engineering [e.g. badgir] and so on).

To prepare, define and propose projects in the field of botany, vegetation cover, specific species adopted in hyper arid, arid and semiarid conditions. In this way, it is possible to recognize the best tolerance species in desert and dry land condition.

To define and propose projects in the field of water problems, optimizing the water usage, quality and quantity of water resources in hyper arid, arid, and semi arid conditions. Cooperation with local and foreign researchers in the forgoing fields can be taken in to account.

To study and research in field of soil conservation, land degradation and desertification in Yazd and other states of the country. to define and propose projects as extensive and intensive agriculture ones to optimize usage of soil and water resources can also be included.

To manage fundamental studies in the fields of cultivation and cropping in arid zones to promote the applied technologic management approaches.

To have connection with scientific and research institutes in Iran and other countries of the world.

To support the authorities programmers in Yazd and other states of the country in terms of creating new solutions to their problems.
